About Politics Mash...
Like many of my ill thought out ideas, Politics Mash did not start out as I had intended. Rather, it set out life as something completely different, Textual Relations.
It was supposed to be an ironic, catchy take on Bill Clinton's famous phrase, 'I didn't not have sexual relations with that women'. But the title was rather stupid as the blog was neither about sex or American politics. (We did start with Bush's weekly maths review though...)
Anyway, after many, many essays, quite a few pints and an inordinate amount of work due in, Politics Mash was finally launched.
You have an idea, right?
The idea? Simple. Throw everything and anything vaguely political into a blog, serious and lighthearted, academic and gossipy, and mash it all together.
The inspiration for this comes, in many ways, from sites such as Paul Staines 'Order-Order' with its ambitions to be 'the Heat of the political world', Lucy Manning's Twitter comments - which whilst always being insightful are also bloody funny - and I suppose a wish to write something other than fucking essays.
Who are you?
I have toyed with the idea, and still am, of writing in the third person. That might be a bit too easy. I suppose I should lay my cards on the table. I'm a final year History and Politics Student studying for an undergrad in Liverpool. Politically I'm a bit of a slag, I'll jump into various camps and I'm not quite convinced of the merits of being 'ideologically attached' to one cause.
